Ganesh Himal Trek (GAN-17)

Deep in the Ganesh Himal there are few trekkers.
A mere 70kms from Kathmandu the villages of the Ganesh Himal preserve a traditional way of life. One of the best treks in central Nepal it walks through the lower, warmer regions leading to the south face of Ganesh Himal, This is the realm of the Tamang.

Where are you going?

Days 1-2 : Flying into Kathmandu is an unforgettable experience with the Himalaya spread out before you. You will be met at the airport on arrival and transferred to your hotel. In the morning of day 2 a half-day city tour will introduce you to some of the highlights of Kathmandu.

Day 3 : Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi, an interesting village on the banks of the Bhote Kosi at 1420m.

Days 4-7 : The Kurpudanda Pass (3739m) leads to Somdang, a lead and tin mining village. With close views of Langtang Lirung (7225m) the trail crosses numerous small streams and passes through fir and rhododendron forests. Walking along terraced hillsides, through beautiful kodo fields the views of the Ganesh Himal are fantastic. Most of the villages here are Tamang who, according to legend, are descended from an invading Tibetan army and follow a mixture of Buddhist and animist beliefs.

Days 8-13 : Turning away from the conventional Ganesh Himal route we cross the Abuthum ridge and descend to cross the Buri Gandaki River.

Days 14–15 : Descending the Durondi Khola we arrive at Gorkha, the birthplace of Prithivi Narayan Shah, founder of Nepal and of the Shah dynasty.

Day 16 : Return to Kathmandu.

Day 17 : Depart
