Kathmandu Valley (KAT-VAL-4)

A rich cultural experience.
Few people opt to trek around the Kathmandu Valley, yet the insight it offers into the lives, history, culture and religion of Nepal is unrivalled. Each season has something special to offer, planting, harvest and a changing profusion of wild flowers. From viewpoints on the valley rim (1000-2800m) Everest is visible to the east and Annapurna to the west. The Himalayan dawn in Nagarkot is awe-inspiring.

Where are you going?

Day 1: Following a short drive to Budhanilkantha the trail ascends past a waterfall then climbs continuously through forests and Tamang villages to enter the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. Most of the ridge is a dense forest of pine, oak and rhododendron trees.

Day 2: From Shivapuri Hill with its views of the Himalaya and across the Kathmandu Valley the trail turns upward through thick forests.

Day 3: Numerous small villages mark the route to Nargakhot

Day 4: Daybreak at Nagarkot offers a justifiably famous panorama from the Annapurna Himal in the west to the Khumbu Himal in the east. Return to Kathmandu by road.
